The UAE Dirham (AED) is the official currency of the United Arab Emirates, introduced in 1973 to replace the Qatar and Dubai Riyal. The Moldovan Leu (MDL) has been the official currency of Moldova since 1993, replacing the Moldovan cupon interim currency used after independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
