About Armenian Dram
The Armenian Dram (AMD) became the official currency of Armenia in November 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble following the country's independence from the USSR in 1991. Its name derives from the historic silver coin used in medieval Armenia. The Central Bank of Armenia oversees monetary policy and issues dram banknotes and coins. Algeria is the largest country in Africa by land area and holds significant hydrocarbon reserves - oil and natural gas account for the majority of government revenues and export earnings.
