About Ethiopian Birr
The Ethiopian Birr (ETB) is the official currency of Ethiopia, the second most populous country in Africa and one of the world's fastest-growing economies. The word "birr" means "silver" in Amharic. The National Bank of Ethiopia manages monetary policy. Ethiopia's economy is largely agricultural - it is the world's largest producer of chat (khat) and one of the largest of coffee, which is believed to have originated in the Ethiopian highlands.
