About Euro
The Euro (EUR) is the official currency of the Eurozone, comprising 20 of the 27 European Union member states - the single largest currency union in the world by GDP. The Iranian Rial (IRR) is the official currency of Iran, though Iranians commonly quote prices in tomans (1 toman = 10 rials). Due to decades of international economic sanctions and domestic monetary mismanagement, the rial has experienced catastrophic depreciation - losing over 99.9% of its value against the dollar since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. In 2020, the Iranian parliament approved a redenomination plan replacing 10,000 rials with 1 new toman, though full implementation has been slow. The Central Bank of Iran issues currency and manages monetary policy.
