About British Pound Sterling
The British Pound Sterling (GBP), symbolised by the pound sign "£", is the world's oldest currency still in use, with roots dating to Anglo-Saxon England in the 8th century. It is the fourth most traded currency in global forex markets and the third largest reserve currency after the US Dollar and Euro. The Bank of England, established in 1694, is the world's second oldest central bank and manages UK monetary policy. The pound is divided into 100 pence. Following Brexit in 2020, the UK maintains full monetary independence.
About Bulgarian Lev
The Bulgarian Lev (BGN) is the official currency of Bulgaria, with a history dating to 1880 when it replaced the Turkish piastre after Bulgaria's liberation. The word "lev" means "lion" in Bulgarian. Following a severe financial crisis in 1996-1997, a currency board was established and the lev was pegged first to the Deutsche Mark and then to the Euro at 1.95583 BGN per EUR. Bulgaria is an EU member since 2007 and is working towards adopting the Euro. The Bulgarian National Bank issues the lev, which is divided into 100 stotinki.
