About Georgian Lari
The Georgian Lari (GEL) has been the official currency of Georgia since 1995, replacing the Georgian coupon at a rate of one million to one following the economic collapse after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The name "lari" derives from an old Georgian word meaning "hoard" or "property". The National Bank of Georgia manages monetary policy with a floating exchange rate regime. The Kazakhstani Tenge (KZT) became the official currency of Kazakhstan in November 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble following independence in 1991. Kazakhstan is Central Asia's largest and wealthiest economy, possessing enormous reserves of oil, natural gas, uranium (the world's top uranium producer), copper, zinc, and other minerals. The National Bank of Kazakhstan manages monetary policy. The tenge experienced significant devaluations in 2009 and 2015 in response to falling oil prices and the devaluation of the Russian ruble.
