About Georgian Lari
The Georgian Lari (GEL) has been the official currency of Georgia since 1995, replacing the Georgian coupon at a rate of one million to one following the economic collapse after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The name "lari" derives from an old Georgian word meaning "hoard" or "property". The National Bank of Georgia manages monetary policy with a floating exchange rate regime. The Namibian Dollar (NAD) has been the official currency of Namibia since 1993, replacing the South African Rand when Namibia achieved full monetary independence after gaining independence from South Africa in 1990. The NAD is pegged to the South African Rand at parity (1:1), and the rand remains legal tender in Namibia. The Bank of Namibia issues the dollar under a currency board arrangement.
