About Georgian Lari
The Georgian Lari (GEL) has been the official currency of Georgia since 1995, replacing the Georgian coupon at a rate of one million to one following the economic collapse after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The name "lari" derives from an old Georgian word meaning "hoard" or "property". The National Bank of Georgia manages monetary policy with a floating exchange rate regime. The Qatari Riyal (QAR) is the official currency of Qatar, one of the world's wealthiest countries by per capita income.
