The Iranian Rial (IRR) is the official currency of Iran, though Iranians commonly quote prices in tomans (1 toman = 10 rials). The Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) is the official currency of the Maldives, an archipelago of 1,200 coral islands in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) manages monetary policy. The rufiyaa is pegged to the US Dollar at a rate of approximately 15.42 MVR per USD within a narrow band. The Maldivian economy is almost entirely dependent on tourism - the Maldives is one of the world's premier luxury travel destinations - and fishing.
