About Sri Lankan Rupee

The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) has been the official currency of Sri Lanka since 1872, with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) managing monetary policy since 1950. Sri Lanka experienced a severe economic crisis in 2022, running out of foreign exchange reserves, causing widespread fuel, medicine, and food shortages that led to political upheaval and the resignation of the president. An IMF bailout agreement in 2023 helped stabilise the situation. Sri Lanka's economy is based on tourism, garment exports, tea (a world-leading exporter), and remittances.

About Bosnian Convertible Mark

The Bosnian Convertible Mark (BAM) was introduced in 1995 following the Dayton Peace Agreement that ended the Bosnian War. It replaced the Bosnian dinar and has been pegged to the Euro at a fixed rate of 1.95583 BAM per EUR since 1998 (originally pegged to the Deutsche Mark). This currency board arrangement ensures full convertibility and monetary discipline. The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina issues the BAM but has no power to conduct independent monetary policy due to the peg. The "marka" design on banknotes reflects both Bosniak and Croat cultural heritage.
