About Sri Lankan Rupee
The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) has been the official currency of Sri Lanka since 1872, with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) managing monetary policy since 1950. Sri Lanka experienced a severe economic crisis in 2022, running out of foreign exchange reserves, causing widespread fuel, medicine, and food shortages that led to political upheaval and the resignation of the president. The Egyptian Pound (EGP) is the official currency of Egypt and one of the oldest currency systems in the world, with versions of the pound used since Egypt adopted a monetary system in the 19th century. The Central Bank of Egypt manages monetary policy. Egypt is the most populous Arab country and the third most populous in Africa, with an economy driven by tourism, Suez Canal revenues, remittances, oil exports, and agriculture. The pound underwent significant devaluations in 2016 and 2023 as Egypt moved to a more flexible exchange rate policy under IMF-backed economic reform programmes.
