About Moroccan Dirham

The Moroccan Dirham (MAD) has been the official currency of Morocco since 1960, replacing the franc used during the French protectorate period. Bank Al-Maghrib manages monetary policy with a managed float exchange rate pegged to a basket of the Euro and US Dollar. Morocco has one of Africa's most diversified economies, with revenues from phosphate exports (the world's third largest producer), tourism, remittances from Moroccans abroad, and growing manufacturing including automotive and aerospace sectors. The Algerian Dinar (DZD) has been the official currency of Algeria since 1964, replacing the Algerian franc used during the French colonial period. The Banque d'Algerie manages monetary policy. Algeria is the largest country in Africa by land area and holds significant hydrocarbon reserves - oil and natural gas account for the majority of government revenues and export earnings. The dinar operates under a managed float exchange regime and is not freely convertible. Algeria has used foreign exchange controls and import restrictions to manage its balance of payments.
