About Myanmar Kyat
The Myanmar Kyat (MMK) is the official currency of Myanmar (formerly Burma), managed by the Central Bank of Myanmar. The kyat has experienced extraordinary volatility following the military coup of February 2021, which led to international sanctions, economic disruption, and a collapse in investor confidence. The kyat lost a significant portion of its value in the years following the coup. Myanmar's economy was based on natural gas exports, garments, jade and gems, rice, and tourism prior to the coup. The Armenian Dram (AMD) became the official currency of Armenia in November 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble following the country's independence from the USSR in 1991.
