About Macanese Pataca
The Macanese Pataca (MOP) is the official currency of Macau Special Administrative Region of China, used alongside the Hong Kong Dollar (which is widely accepted at a rate of 1 HKD = 1.03 MOP approximately). The pataca has been pegged to the HKD since 1977. Macau is the only place in China where gambling is legal, making its economy - per capita one of the world's richest - almost entirely dependent on gaming and tourism revenues. The Russian Ruble (RUB) is one of the world's oldest currencies, with roots dating to the 13th century as a silver ingot used in medieval Kievan Rus. The Bank of Russia manages monetary policy with a floating exchange rate, adopted in 2014. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the ruble experienced a sharp depreciation due to unprecedented international sanctions but subsequently recovered due to capital controls, mandatory export revenue conversion, and high energy prices.
