About Nicaraguan Cordoba
The Nicaraguan Cordoba (NIO) is the official currency of Nicaragua, named after Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba, the Spanish conquistador who founded several of Nicaragua's major colonial cities. The current gold cordoba was introduced in 1991 following a period of hyperinflation under the Nicaraguan Revolution government, replacing the old cordoba at a rate of 5 million to 1. The Banco Central de Nicaragua manages monetary policy with a crawling peg exchange rate that depreciates against the US Dollar at a controlled rate of approximately 3% per year.
About Maldivian Rufiyaa
The Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) is the official currency of the Maldives, an archipelago of 1,200 coral islands in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) manages monetary policy. The rufiyaa is pegged to the US Dollar at a rate of approximately 15.42 MVR per USD within a narrow band. The Maldivian economy is almost entirely dependent on tourism - the Maldives is one of the world's premier luxury travel destinations - and fishing. The tourism sector accounts for around 25% of GDP directly and far more indirectly. The rufiyaa is divided into 100 laari.
