About New Zealand Dollar
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD), nicknamed the "Kiwi" after the native flightless bird on the one-dollar coin, was introduced in 1967 when New Zealand decimalised its currency. The Icelandic Krona (ISK) is the official currency of Iceland, one of the world's most sparsely populated countries but with a high standard of living. The krona has been subject to notable turbulence - during the 2008 global financial crisis, Iceland's banking system collapsed spectacularly and the krona lost about half its value virtually overnight, requiring capital controls that remained in place until 2017. The Central Bank of Iceland manages monetary policy. Iceland's economy is based on fishing, aluminium smelting, geothermal energy, and increasingly tourism.
