About Peruvian Sol
The Peruvian Sol (PEN) - formally the "nuevo sol" (new sun) - was introduced in 1991 as part of a sweeping economic stabilisation programme that ended hyperinflation, which had reached 7,000% annually under the previous inti currency. The name "sol" is the Spanish word for "sun" and reflects the ancient Inca sun deity Inti. The Banco Central de Reserva del Peru manages monetary policy with a managed float. Peru is one of South America's strongest economies and the world's second largest copper producer, as well as a major producer of gold, zinc, and silver.
About Colombian Peso
The Colombian Peso (COP) is the official currency of Colombia, with a history dating to 1837, making it one of the older continuously used currencies in Latin America. The Banco de la Republica issues the peso and manages monetary policy with an inflation-targeting framework. Colombia has the third largest economy in South America, with significant exports of oil, coal, coffee, flowers, and emeralds. The peso has experienced volatility due to its correlation with oil prices - Colombia is South America's third-largest oil producer.
