About Tanzanian Shilling
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) has been the official currency of Tanzania since 1966, replacing the East African shilling. The Bank of Tanzania manages monetary policy. Tanzania is one of Africa's largest and fastest growing economies, with significant revenues from tourism (safari - Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater; Kilimanjaro; Zanzibar), gold mining, coffee, tea, cotton, and increasingly extractable natural gas reserves. The British Pound Sterling (GBP), symbolised by the pound sign "£", is the world's oldest currency still in use, with roots dating to Anglo-Saxon England in the 8th century. It is the fourth most traded currency in global forex markets and the third largest reserve currency after the US Dollar and Euro. The Bank of England, established in 1694, is the world's second oldest central bank and manages UK monetary policy. The pound is divided into 100 pence. Following Brexit in 2020, the UK maintains full monetary independence.
