About Zambian Kwacha
The Zambian Kwacha (ZMW), meaning "dawn" or "freedom" in Nyanja, was redenominated in January 2013 at a rate of 1,000 old kwacha (ZMK) to 1 new kwacha (ZMW), eliminating the large denominations that had accumulated from years of inflation. The Bank of Zambia manages monetary policy. Zambia is Africa's second largest copper producer and copper accounts for the bulk of its export revenues, making the kwacha highly sensitive to global copper prices. Zambia became the first African nation to default on its debt in the post-pandemic era in 2020, and completed a debt restructuring process in 2023.
About Uzbekistani Som
The Uzbekistani Som (UZS) has been the official currency of Uzbekistan since 1994, replacing the Soviet ruble after independence. The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan manages monetary policy. Uzbekistan is Central Asia's most populous nation and has transformed significantly since its economic liberalisation reforms beginning in 2017 under President Mirziyoyev. It is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of gold, cotton, uranium, natural gas, and copper, and a major producer of potash.
